Dee-Con 2012 launched
Dundee University Students Association (DUSA) will once again host one of the Scotland's biggest celebrations of anime, comics and video games later this year.
Dee-Con 2012 will take place at DUSA on Saturday, 7th April, and feature film screenings, board and video games tournaments, stalls, exhibitions, and demonstrations. A line-up of leading figures from the industry is currently being finalised, and a special art shop will see work from 50 artists go up for sale.
The event has grown in popularity year-on-year, with almost 2000 fans, many decked out in costume, turning out for the 2011 event. The day-long event is completely free and open to all members of the public.
Dee-Con 2012 is being organised by Kieran Duncan and Mark Grossi, 4th Year students on the Animation programme at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD). Kieran said they hoped to attract anime and art fans from across Scotland, and even further afield.
"We're really excited about putting the programme together and are just awaiting confirmation of the full line-up," he said. "We're trying to make contact with as many fans from across the country as possible because it's a tight community and this is something that will really appeal to them.
"It's great fun to see the amount of people who really get into the spirit of things by dressing up, and this will be something for all anime fans. Even if you are not a diehard, and are maybe just curious, it's shaping up to be a great day and anybody is welcome.
"One of the bars in DUSA is being turned over to us to hold video games tournaments on big screens, and the afterparty should be something special."
The University is home to the UK's first degree programme in Comics Studies, and representatives of the course will be taking part in Dee-Con, along with illustrators and animators from DJCAD.
The afterparty will be held in DUSA, with tickets costing £4 All money raised will go towards funding the Animation programme's Degree Show activities.
