Pupils compete for Strathmore Trophy 2012
Photo opportunity: 1.50pm on Friday, 15th June at Dalhousie Building Lecture Theatre 3F01, University of Dundee. Prize presentation and demonstration of winning designs.
The annual Strathmore Trophy challenge will take place at the University of Dundee later this week, with 16 schools from Tayside, Fife and Clackmannanshire taking part.
The event, which takes place at the Queen Mother Building on Friday, 15th June from 10am, will see teams of four from the S1 and S2 age group compete against each other in a challenge set by staff at the University’s School of Computing.
This year's event is inspired by the Olympics, with the task being to create a physical interface to an Olympic-themed computer game. To do this, the pupils will use Arduino, a simple electronics platform.
The trophy and other prizes will be presented at the Dalhousie Building at 1.50pm.
Organiser Chris Martin from the School of Computing said, "Through the Strathmore Trophy, we hope to open the eyes of school pupils and give them the taste of of being digital creators rather than just consumers.
"Through programming and constructing novel physical games controllers, they get a taste of programming in a context they find interesting and relevant"
The Strathmore Trophy competition, now in its 15th year, is held annually by the School of Computing to get local school pupils thinking about applications of computer technology to help people.
The schools taking part this year are:
