Excellence in teaching to be recognised at awards ceremony

Photo opportunity: 12.30-2pm on Monday, 18th June at Dalhousie Building. Winners of teaching awards will be presented with their prizes.

Dr David Robb and Dr Linda Morris will have their excellence as educators recognised when they are presented with the University of Dundee's Chancellor's Award for Lifetime Contribution to Teaching.

They will receive their awards during the University's Graduation ceremony next week. The achievements of Dr Robb, Dr Morris and their colleagues will further be marked at a celebratory lunch held in honour of the winners of University Teaching Awards 2011-12 on Monday, 18th June. A total of 11 academics will be recognised for their contribution to teaching at the University during the ceremony.

The award winners have enhanced the experience of many thousands of students over the years, and raised the standard of teaching across the University. The ceremony will see them share their experiences of implementing changes to learning and teaching, and their plans for next steps through their practice development awards.

Professor David Coates, Deputy Principal Learning & Teaching at the University, paid tribute to all award winners, saying, "These awards recognise the excellent teachers that we have at the University: a critical resource for delivering a world class education to our students.

"Every year, we find new reasons for giving these awards, because of the innovation, the inclusiveness, the sheer dedication of our staff in making sure the student academic experience matches the rest of the UK leading student experience in Dundee."

The Chancellor's Award recognises a continuous significant contribution to the standard and development of learning and teaching in the University.

Dr Robb recently retired after being a member of staff within the English programme at the School of Humanities since 1973. He personally taught over 2.000 students at Dundee, and took a key leadership role in improving the learning and teaching experience at the University. His vast experience proved invaluable to younger staff members as well as postgraduate teaching assistants and PhD students.

Dr Morris was recognised for work in helping to re-shape the way Life Sciences are taught at Dundee since her appointment in 2001. Her innovative approach has been pivotal in the embedding of employability within the curriculum, while she has demonstrated her leadership skills as these changes were implemented, leading to several teaching awards previously.
