Botswana to be explored at RSGS Lecture
Stories of close encounters with elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, wildebeest, praying mantis, and chameleons will be told during the next Royal Scottish Geographical Society Inspiring People talk at the University of Dundee.
Expedition leader David Edwards will share his experiences of living in the Botswana bush for three months when he delivers his lecture at the D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, 6th March.
Botswana has been described as the 'Switzerland of southern Africa': a stable, democratic country that has avoided the tragedies and upheavals of its neighbours. David, who spent a second spell in Botswana studying everyday life by living with the diverse population, will discuss the history and character of the country, as well as the challenges it faces, during the Dundee event.
A geology graduate, he has worked extensively as a professional mountain walks leader and has climbed and backpacked in Britain, Canada, USA, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, the Italian Dolomites and the Alps. He worked as an expedition science leader in Botswana and the Yukon, as a field studies tutor, and as University Expeditions Advisor for the RSGS.
The David's presentation will take place on Tuesday, 6th March at 7.30pm in D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre. Tickets are available at the door, and cost £8 for adults or are free for students, under-18s and RSGS members.
