Planning Application Notice lodged for V&A at Dundee
The latest plans for V&A at Dundee will go on public display in Dundee early in the New Year.
Detailed proposals for the project will be on show at the Bernard King Library, University of Abertay Dundee, on January 17th, 18th and 19th, from 10am to 4pm each day.
Plans for the new site plus the latest flythrough and visuals will be on display, and visitors will be encouraged to share their views with staff across the three days.
"I am very excited about the latest plans for the project and I look forward to sharing these with the public in January," said Philip Long, Director of V&A at Dundee. "Our architect Kengo Kuma was here in Dundee last week to present us with the latest refinements to his vision for the building.
"In tandem with developing the designs for the building, we are continuing to make very good progress on the content and programme for the wider project, which will have an impact right across Scotland and beyond. The consultation provides a great opportunity to share these plans with the public too."
A new Planning Application Notice for the project has been lodged with Dundee City Council, ahead of a full revised planning application taking into account the previously announced decision to move the building further on to the shore, at the heart of Dundee's redeveloped waterfront.
Kengo Kuma has already spoken of how he feels the move will create an even greater connection between the project and the surrounding environment, including the RRS Discovery, the new railway station and on to the city centre.
The venue for the public consultation is the same as was used for the initial display of competition entries for the project in 2010, which attracted around 15,000 visitors.
NOTES TO EDITORS
V&A at Dundee
V&A at Dundee will be the first ever purpose-built design museum to be constructed in the UK outside London. It will provide more than 1700 square metres of flexible gallery space and will be one of the largest dedicated exhibition spaces in Scotland. The galleries will host world-class exhibitions of international design, alongside displays devoted to outstanding Scottish design - historical, contemporary and of the future.
V&A at Dundee is being delivered by Design Dundee Ltd, a ground-breaking partnership between the Victoria and Albert Museum - the world's greatest museum of art and design - and Dundee City Council, the Universities of Dundee and Abertay Dundee, and Scottish Enterprise. The new building is being designed by a team led by architects Kengo Kuma & Associates.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded it a first round pass of up to £9.2m, including £200,000 development funding, in May 2102. The Scottish Government has committed £15m in capital towards the project's £45million budget.
