Great artistic showpiece draws near
The countdown is under way for one of the biggest cultural events in Dundee. The annual degree show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design is expected to attract around 10,000 visitors and boost the city's economy by £1.5 million.

Death of Mr Bruce Johnston
The former chairman of Dundee firm Alliance Trust, Bruce Johnston, has died following a short illness. He was 72. He was a dedicated supporter of Dundee University and a member of the university court until his second term as a lay member came to an end in July 2009.

Air France Crash Victim’s Body Recovered From Atlantic Seabed
Underwater salvage teams retrieved a body from the wreck of the Air France Airbus that crashed into the Atlantic two years ago as they seek to collect more evidence to help explain the worst disaster in the airline’s history.

Hugs extend happiness at Happy Days
A nursery is reporting great benefits from its experiment to test whether hugging can positively affect a child's mood.
Other reported effects of the Cuddle Circles project, which is being overseen by Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Dundee, are that children share more and hug each other without being prompted.

Boag paintings sold to US gallery
Two paintings by artist Francis Boag are to leave a Fife gallery for their new home in America following their sale.
Francis Boag was born in Dundee in 1948 and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in the late sixties when Pop Art was just emerging as a serious art movement.

Celebrities help out Oxfam with help from Salford
The University of Salford is part of research project which brought cutting-edge technology to the world of couture this month - all in aid of a charity fundraising initiative at Selfridges in London.
The idea is part of a 36-month cross-university research project. ‘TOTeM: Tales of Things and Electronic Memory’ which saw Salford’s Dr Maria Burke collaborate with research partners from Edinburgh College of Art, University College London, Brunel University and the University of Dundee.

Ninewells Hospital specialist argues thyroid/fracture research should be a priority
The findings and increasing numbers of people with thyroid problems have prompted a Ninewells Hospital specialist to say research in to the links between thyroid hormone and fractures should be given a higher priority.
Professor Graham Leese, professor of endocrinology and diabetes at Dundee University, commented on bmj.com, where the findings of a Canadian study are published.
