Next installment of trauma seminar series
The next installment of the University of Dundee's 'Trauma, Abuse and Resilience' seminar series will take place on Monday, 10th October.
The seminar, hosted by the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education, will examine the respective challenges of working with complex trauma and dissociative experiences compared to incident trauma.
It will be led by Sandi Richman, a Clinical Psychologist specialising in the treatment of victims of acute trauma and personal injury, adult survivors of childhood abuse and dissociative disorders.
Taking place at the Dalhousie Building, the seminar will cover diagnostic issues in identifying traumatic experiences that are rooted in childhood and differentiating these from traumas experienced by otherwise healthy adults that may result in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and a disruption in their self-reflective functioning.
It will consider implications for planning an appropriate treatment strategy and will be illustrated with case material.
Dr Ian Barron from the University’s School of Education, Social Work and Community Education, said it would be of interest to academics, practitioners and anyone working in the field of trauma treatment.
'Sandi is a world leader in psycho-trauma recovery and training,' he said. 'It's great that Dundee has attracted someone of such high calibre to share her knowledge, skills and expertise with such a wide ranging audience.'
Sandi Richman is an accredited trainer and accredited consultant in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing). She is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and, until recently, headed up an EMDR service within the Traumatic Stress Service at the Maudsley Hospital in South London.
The seminar takes place at the Dalhousie Building from 10am-3.30pm on Monday, 10th October, and costs £75 per delegate, with a buffet lunch included in the price.
This event is sponsored by 18 & Under an established charity based in Dundee, which offers confidential support and information to young people and children who have been abused in any way. Eighteen & Under run the 'Violence Is Preventable' programme in schools and other venues around the country. More information about the charity is available at www.18u.org.uk.
