Ex-members sought to help celebrate 40th anniversary
As it prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary, Dundee University Sub-Aqua Club is hoping former members from the past four decades can help them mark the occasion.
A dinner and ceilidh will be held at the Invercarse Hotel on Friday, 25th November, and the current committee are hoping that past members will attend and share their memories of the club in years gone by.
The event is one of several to be held as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations, and assistant Diving Officer Vicky McGuire appealed for help in tracking down members who the club have lost touch with over the years.
'We really want to get in touch with as many ex-members as possible,' she said. 'We are asking people to submit photos and memorabilia so we can put together a presentation about the history of the club and we would love for them to come along and join the celebrations with us.
'There have been hundreds of members over the years, but the nature of a university club means members may only be around for a few years before moving on. We would like to hear from anyone with fond memories of their time here, even if they can’t make the dinner itself.'
Dundee University Sub-Aqua Club was formed in 1971, and arranges several dives around Scotland each year. With a membership of more than 30, the club celebrates its Ruby Anniversary in good health.
Members visited Egypt earlier this year to experience the fantastic diving opportunities to be enjoyed on the prestigious ‘wrecks and reefs’ tour, and are planning to dive a total of 40 wrecks this year.
Tickets for the anniversary dinner are priced at £30. All proceeds from the event will be split amongst two charities, the RNLI and the Deptherapy Foundation, a charity that uses scuba diving as rehabilitation for injured service personnel
