Satellite image of ash cloud and weather system
The attached image from the Satellite Receiving Station at the University of Dundee shows the ash cloud from Iceland and the storm system which has buffeted the UK.
This was received yesterday afternoon from NASA's Terra satellite. At the time this image was acquired the low pressure system which has brought high winds and heavy rain to many areas of the British Isles was centred off Northwest Scotland. An ash plume from Iceland's Grimsvotn volcano is visible drifting southwards over the Atlantic Ocean.
