Book created with school pupils to be launched
Photo opportunity: 10am on Thursday, 24th March at Dundee Central Library. The ‘Found You’ book created by St Joseph’s pupils will be launched.
Pupils from St. Joseph’s Primary School will tomorrow launch a picture book they created with help from students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.
MSc Media Art student Omar Arshad and Lynsay Wallace, a Master of Fine Art student, undertook a placement at St Joseph’s in February. They worked with Primary 6 and 7 pupils at the school and showed them a variety of techniques for creating art to enable them to create a colourful book entitled Found You.
Using techniques such as collage-making and print, the children have produced the book, which deals with subjects such as friendship and how to cope with problems. Copies will be available at most libraries in Dundee and in digital format for youngsters across Dundee and further afield to borrow.
Omar and Lynsay will join the children as well as teachers, parents and representatives of Dundee City Council Education Department for the event, which takes place at Dundee Central Library from 10am on Thursday, 24th March.
Omar says he had never worked with children before, so the project was challenging but rewarding for him.
'It was great to work with the kids and see them having fun, and myself and Lynsay enjoyed ourselves as well,' he said. 'We helped them out by teaching the techniques, but everything in the book came from the children’s imaginations.
'They have worked really hard and the end result is a fantastic little book that they can be proud of.'
