Graduation - Wimberley award winner 2011
Euan McTurk, who graduates today (Thurs June 23rd) from the University of Dundee with a First Class degree in Renewable Energy has been given extra reason to celebrate after he was named winner of the 2011 Wimberley Award.
The Wimberley Award is given every year to a University of Dundee student who has exhibited outstanding and exemplary efforts or has made a distinguished contribution to the life of the University.
Euan (22), from Cumnock, has not only proved an outstanding student academically but has also been heavily involved in student representation throughout his time at Dundee.
He has chaired the Student-Staff liaison committee within the Division of Electronic Engineering, Physics and Renewable Energy, and has been a multiple award winner at the University’s Enterprise Gym, which sets students tasks to encourage entrepreneurship and enterprise.
Euan has also represented the University at a wide variety of external events. In April he met Alex Salmond when the First Minister visited the University to announce plans for the Scottish Government’s Future Transport Fund.
'I am absolutely delighted to be given the Wimberley Award,' said Euan. 'I have really enjoyed my time at University, both academically and within all of the activities that I was involved in, and to be presented with this award upon my graduation is a fantastic way to round up my time as an undergraduate student at the University of Dundee.'
Now that he has completed his degree Euan will be undertaking a PhD at the University of St Andrews concerning the development of next-generation battery technology for electric vehicles, whilst pursuing his business concepts in the low-carbon automotive sector.
Euan graduates in the afternoon ceremony at the Caird Hall today.
