'How Best to Respond to the Complexities of Ritual Abuse' seminar
A seminar examining how to respond to ritual abuse, and how to help survivors, will be held at the University of Dundee next week.
Hosted by the University’s School of Education, Social Work and Community Education, the one-day event, entitled ‘How Best to Respond to the Complexities of Ritual Abuse’, will explore this sensitive subject and consider ways of working for both survivors and psychotherapists.
The seminar will be led by Dr Derek Farrell, from the University of Birmingham. Dr Farrell will present insights into understanding ritual abuse based on his skills as a practitioner as well as evidence from his recent research.
Four sessions of presentations and experiential learning activities will take place at the Dalhousie Building on Tuesday, 28th June. The seminar is sponsored by Izzy’s Promise, a Dundee-based charity that offers free and confidential support to ritual and organised abuse victims.
Dr Ian Barron, from the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education, said 'For too long the existence of ritual abuse has been denied. By contrast, Dr Farrell a renowned world leader in both practice and research in ritual abuse and trauma recovery addresses the issue from an evidence-based perspective.
'The School is extremely pleased to welcome such a prestigious presenter as part of a comprehensive line up of accomplished researchers.'
The event is aimed at professionals working in this area, and the cost of the seminar is £75 per delegate, with a buffet lunch and refreshments provided.
Anyone interested in attending should contact Susan Lamb on ESWCE-marketing@dundee.ac.uk or 01382 381480.
