Transatlantic studies explored in Dundee
Relations between America and Europe throughout history and right up to the present day will be explored at a major international conference being hosted by the University of Dundee this week.
The tenth anniversary conference of the Transatlantic Studies Association is expected to attract well over 100 delegates from across the USA and Europe to Dundee between July 11th and 14th.
In one of the highlights of the conference, Professor Warren Kimball, one of the world’s leading experts on World War Two, will lead a roundtable discussion on transatlantic relations in the Second World War, where he will be joined by a group of young European and US scholars who all have new perspectives to offer.
The week's events will also include a workshop composed of leading international scholars on contemporary Anglo-American relations, the results of which will be published in 2012. There will also be a wide range of themed panels on offer ranging from literature and culture to economics, and planning and the environment to security studies and History.
Professor Alan Dobson, of the University of Dundee, is founder of the Transatlantic Studies Association and also launched the associated Journal of Transatlantic Studies.
'Over the last nine years both the Association and the Journal have done a great deal to promote scholarship and understanding of the transatlantic relationship at a time when this has become perhaps more important than ever before,' said Professor Dobson.
'The journal has gone from strength to strength and is now recognised as the leading journal in this field. In the past it has published special and themed issues on post-9/11, contemporary challenges for NATO, Anglo-American relations, US Secretaries of State, and US presidents and their performance in transatlantic relations.
'I am very excited by the range of discussion and debate which we will be presenting at our tenth anniversary conference.'
The Transatlantic Studies Association now reaches out to well over 600 scholars world-wide. The TSA annual conference regularly attracts well over 100 delegates with over a quarter of those coming from North America and a similar percentage coming from Europe.
The conference takes place from July 11th to 14th at West Park Conference Centre in Dunde.
