Chance to influence plans for Scotland's marine regions
Organisations and individuals in Tayside will be given the chance to register their views on legislation affecting Scottish marine regions at an event in Dundee next week.
The Tay Estuary Forum is hosting an open event at Discovery Point in Dundee on Thursday 27th January as part of the Scottish Government’s consultation on Scottish Marine Regions.
The Marine (Scotland) Act provides for the creation of marine regions and, ultimately, the delegation of marine planning to a local level. This will allow for local accountability and input to decision making. Scottish Marine Regions will be created through secondary legislation once the characteristics for establishing their boundaries are determined.
Consultation on determining the Scottish Marine Regions is underway and will close on 18 February 2011. The full consultation document can be downloaded from: www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/marine/seamanagement/regional/Consultation.
'This is a chance for the public and organisations to register their views on legislation that will determine how planning in our marine areas is managed in future,' said Laura Booth, project officer for the Tay Estuary Forum.
'Planning in marine areas is becoming more important as various interests such as conservation and renewable energy come ever more to the fore.'
The event will include a presentation from Anna Donald, Marine Scotland, as well as an open forum for questions and discussion.
The event starts at 9.30 am and will run to noon. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register in advance by emailing Laura Booth (TEF Project Officer) at TayEstuaryForum@dundee.ac.uk or by telephone on 01382 384933. Registration is free
The Tay Estuary Forum brings together organisations and individuals with a common interest in the welfare of the Tay Estuary and adjacent coastline.
