'World Café' to promote social justice

Photo opportunity: 10am on Friday, 18th February at Dalhousie Building. Students will be unveiling the results of their community research.

Around 180 students from the University of Dundee will this Friday host a 'World Café' to demonstrate the findings of visits to schools and community projects throughout the city and beyond.

The first year students from BA courses at the University's School of Education, Social Work and Community Education undertook the fieldwork investigative visits as part of their 'Working together To Achieve Social Justice' module.

Examining examples of good collaboration, they carried out a number of interviews and other assessments at a range of statutory and voluntary agencies in order to compile their results.

Stalls have been designed by the students to display the information they have gathered, and will be set up in the Dalhousie Building between 10-11am on Friday, 18th February. All students will be on hand to discuss their findings and answer questions from staff and students. Representatives of the agencies involved in the project will be able to give and receive feedback.

Gary Roberts, BA (Hons) Community Learning and Development Programme Director, said, 'This event is a very good example of the many of positive practices currently happening in statutory and voluntary agencies out there in the field.

'What the students have identified as best practice will inform their learning and development, and will also promote the schools, community projects and groups who hosted these investigative visits.'

The World Café takes place in the Dalhousie Foyer and room LT4 between 10-11am on Friday, 18th February.
