University to welcome Scotland's top volleyball players
The cream of Scotland's women volleyball players will be at the University of Dundee this Sunday when the Institute of Sport and Exercise hosts the Scottish Student Challenge event.
Both the Scottish National Senior and Junior women’s will be taking on the Scottish Universities Select Team, comprising the best student female volleyball players in Scotland.
'This three way tournament is now an established feature of the Scottish Volleyball calendar and offers local sports enthusiasts the opportunity to see the top women volleyball players in the country in action,' said Paul McPate, Assistant Director of the Institute of Sport and Exercise.
'There is local interest too, with Dundee University student Marina Petropoulou having been selected for the Scottish Universities Select Team. Marina has an impressive volleyball pedigree, having been a previous member of the Greek junior national team at both World and European Championships, so she is no stranger to international competition.'
Marina has been a key member of the successful Dundee University Women's Volleyball Team that this season has lifted both the Scottish Universities League and Cup titles and made it to the British Universities Championship Final for the second time in three years.
The university women have still to compete in one more national Final - the Scottish Thistle Bowl - on May 14th, and a win in that match, against National Division 1 opponents North Lanarkshire, will cap a hugely successful season that has also seen them recognised as 'Team of the Year' at Dundee University.
The volleyball action starts at 10.00am on Sunday, with the Scottish Universities Team playing the Scottish National Junior Team. Access is free and spectators are welcome. The event takes place at the Institute of Sport and Exercise in Old Hawkhill.
