The academic achievements of more than 600 students will be celebrated tomorrow when the University of Dundee holds its autumn graduation ceremonies.

Taking place at the Caird Hall over two ceremonies on Wednesday, 17th November, the graduation has been designed so that students whose courses finish after the traditional summer graduation in late June can receive their awards as soon as possible after successfully completing their studies.

A total of 652 graduands spanning a wide range of disciplines will receive the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas. They will be joined by family and friends for their big day.

The first ceremony will take place at 10am, and will see students receive their awards gained from the College of Arts and Social Sciences and College of Art, Science and Engineering. This includes students from subjects as diverse as accounting, architecture, design, humanities and computing.

The afternoon ceremony, which begins at 2.30pm, will see students from the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, College of Life Sciences, and School of Education, Social Work and Community Education graduate.

John Milligan, the long-serving Chair of the University Court who retired in June, will be receiving an honorary degree during the morning ceremony, while Brian Cox will be formally installed as Rector of the University as part of the afternoon ceremony.

Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, 'This is a fitting way to recognise the work John put in as Chair of Court over six years. He has been a fantastic supporter of the University, and we are delighted to recognise his commitment during that time. It will also be a pleasure to see Brian Cox officially installed as Rector.'

The graduates and their families will then be able to celebrate their achievements with a Winter Wonderland-themed party taking place at Campus Green from 7pm to 10pm, with musical entertainment provided.
