Chaplaincy charity challenge cheque presented to CHAS

Photo opportunity: Chaplaincy Centre, Cross Row, University of Dundee at 12pm on Thursday, February 11th. Alison Rennie from CHAS will receive the cheque from University Chaplain, the Rev Dr Fiona Douglas, and her team.

Staff from the University of Dundee’s Chaplaincy Centre will next week present the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) with a cheque for £2644, the proceeds of a charity triathlon last year.

University Chaplain, the Rev Dr Fiona Douglas, chaplaincy secretary Jill Webster, director of music Graeme Stevenson, and Reverend Gordon Campbell, (honorary chaplain) were joined by John Culling, from the Tayforth Universities Officers Training Corps, for the gruelling fundraiser, which took place in October.

The team swam 32 lengths of the University pool before cycling 10 miles to Broughty Ferry and back and finishing with a two-mile run at the Riverside playing fields. They will hand over a cheque for the amount donated by family, friends and colleagues to CHAS fundraiser Alison Rennie at the Chaplaincy Centre on Thursday, February 11th.

The triathlon was the brainchild of Jill Webster, who is something of a veteran fundraiser, having helped generate thousands of pounds for CHAS in the past, and who explained that the team had far exceeded their original goal.

'We’re delighted with the amount we raised,' she said. 'Initially we’d hoped to get at least £1000, so to have raised over £2500 is fantastic.'

'I think everyone’s legs have just about recovered, and I’d do it again in a minute, although I don’t know if everyone would be so keen! It was great fun and the fact everyone came together and worked so hard in training and on the day was brilliant.'

'I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their support and for all the donations, as well as for all their encouragement. CHAS is a great cause, and we’re over the moon to have been able to raise money for them.'

Jill will be presenting the cheque to CHAS fundraiser Alison Rennie along with Dr Douglas, Graeme Stevenson and Rev Gordon Campbell.
