'Exploring Nursing and Midwifery' - schools event Tuesday Dec 14th

School pupils from around Tayside and Fife will be given a hands-on introduction to Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Dundee next week.

Around 100 S3 and S4 pupils from schools in Fife, Dundee, Carnoustie and Perth will be at the University’s Ninewells campus on Tuesday December 14th for the 'Exploring Nursing and Midwifery' event

Pupils will get to visit five stations where different aspects of Nursing & Midwifery will be highlighted, each offering opportunities for hands-on activities. The station titles are:

  • Mental Health - keeping it and improving it
  • How big is my baby? Skills a midwife needs
  • Preventing infection - it's more than washing hands
  • What do nurses do every day? Some skills you will learn
  • Help! It's an emergency. What do I do now?

Each station will be manned by representatives from the School of Nursing and Midwifery and existing nursing students.

'We want to engage with pupils and show them some of the practicalities involved in nursing and midwifery, and also explain to them some of the career options in the area,' said John Lee, Head of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Dundee.

The event runs from 9.30am in the Medical School area at Ninewells.

Schools taking part are Waid Academy, Auchmuty High School, Carnoustie High School, Perth High School and four in Dundee – St John’s RC High School, St Paul’s RC Academy, Morgan Academy and Menzieshill High School
