Young Fife artists illustrate 'MAP4Life'

Presentation - 12 noon, Friday 27th August
Kirkcaldy campus of University of Dundee

The winners of an art competition - run across four Fife primary schools - which encouraged pupils to think about issues related to healthcare will receive their prizes at the University of Dundee’s Kirkcaldy campus on Friday August 27th.

The MAP4Life project provides pupils in primaries 4, 5 and 6 with an insight into nursing, health and wellbeing, and global citizenship. It was developed by the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University as a way of illustrating the range of activities involved in nursing.

The four primary schools which took part in the project this year were Dysart Primary, Kirkcaldy North, Sinclairtown, and Pathhead. The winning entries were from:

  • 1st prize - Oonagh Maxwell, P4 Kirkcaldy North Primary
  • 2nd prize - Alix Brown, P4, Sinclairtown Primary
  • 3rd prize - Reece Cochrane, P4, Sinclairtown Primary

Their work will be made into posters to be displayed at all of the School of Nursing and Midwifery’s recruitment and open days as well as other locations around the schools, the University, NHS sites and other public locations. Entries will also be posted on the MAP4Life website - www.dundee.ac.uk/nursingmidwifery/map4life.

'We have been hugely impressed by the work the pupils have submitted this year and particularly that of our winners,' said Professor Margaret Smith, Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

'We want to engage with children and show them what we do and the range of activities and careers nursing and midwifery can offer.'

MAP4Life was conceived by Garry Scott and Anne Hutchison in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The project is run by the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University’s Library and Learning Centre, in partnership with the Scottish Government, Fife Council Education Service, NHS Fife, Dundee City Council Education Department and NHS Tayside.

The University of Dundee offers degree and diploma programmes in Nursing at both its Fife and Dundee campuses. For more information, see www.dundee.ac.uk/nursingmidwifery or call 01382 388534.
