Skiers and boarders to get chance to show off their moves

Photo opportunity: Dundee University Tennis Courts, Balfour Street between 2pm and 6pm, Saturday, October 24th. Skiers and boarders will be taking to the slopes and performing spectacular tricks.

The University of Dundee is set for a very localised snowstorm this weekend when a delivery of more than 20 tonnes of the white stuff will allow skiers and snowboarders to demonstrate their tricks.

Indoor snow slope company SNO!Zone will shift their attention outdoors to enable the Dundee University Ski and Snowboard Club to host a 'Rail Jam'. A temporary outdoor slope will be constructed at the University’s tennis courts, near the Students Union building

The event takes place between 2-6pm on Saturday, October 24th, and skiers and snowboarders are invited to show of their best moves. A panel of judges will then select the best contestants to compete in a final jam.

More than 40 riders have signed up to take part, and there will be live music providing a soundtrack to their gravity-defying tricks.

Dominik Szabo, DUSSC President and organiser of the Rail Jam, said the aim of the event was to demonstrate what Scottish universities snowsport clubs are all about.

'We brought this event to Dundee as much for those who don't do snowsports as for those of us who love them and are participating,' he said. 'We brought the DUSSC Rail Jam madness to them so they could see what great fun it was, and to hopefully inspire them to get involved.'

Martin Lisle, SNO!zone’s marketing & events co-ordinator, said, 'With the winter season just beginning we wanted to show off the fantastic snow sport talent that we have here in Scotland.'

'his is the first time that we have created an outdoor snow slope in Dundee and we are really looking forward to showing off the talent of our team of skiers and snowboarders.'

Entry to the event for spectators is free. Competitors must pay £8 to take part and they will receive a t-shirt, energy drinks and entry to the After Party, which takes place in the Students Union.
