Presentation of cheques to Professor Alastair Thompson
Two breast cancer patients who were successfully treated for the disease at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee wil present cheques totalling over £4000 to researchers tomorrow (Friday).
Gillian Young, from Perth, will hand over a cheque for around £3000. The money represents half the money from a `Health and Wellbeing' fundraising day run by her friend Zoe Tod. The day was such a success the ladies are now hoping to make it an annual event.
Paula Togi, from Dunino in Fife, will hand over a cheque for over £1000, raised at a party earlier this year where friends were asked to make donations.
Professor Thompson, one of the country's leading breast cancer experts, based at the University
of Dundee School of Medicine, will accept the cheques. 'These are marvellous gestures from two brave ladies," said Professor Thompson. "We have to rely on public fundraising for much of the work we do and we value these kind of efforts immensely. The public in Tayside and Fife continue to be remarkably generous and supportive of our efforts to tackle breast cancer.'
