University Challenge - staff out for revenge on students!

EVENT - 6pm, Monday November 16th, Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill

Staff from the University of Dundee will look to restore their brainy reputation on Monday when they take on a team of students in a charity University Challenge.

In last year’s inaugural event, the students won on the very last question, leaving the staff team shamefaced and open to abuse from all their campus colleagues. Now another crack team of academics has been lined up, this time hoping to avoid embarrassment.

BBC Scotland’s political editor Brian Taylor will play the Jeremy Paxman role as question master for the night, at the event in the Dalhousie Building on Monday, to which the public are invited to come along and pile on the pressure for the academics.

All of the questions have been supplied by one of the contributors to the BBC’s actual University Challenge programme.

The staff team is made up of Dr Jim McGeorge, University Secretary; Professor Anne Anderson, Vice-Principal, and Head of the College of Art, Science and Engineering; Professor Rob Duck, Dean of the School of Social and Environmental Sciences; and Dr Paul Andrews, of the College of Life Sciences.

Facing them is the student team consisting of Gary Cocker, School of Humanities; Matthew Hastings, School of Medicine; Connor Bowen, College of Life Sciences; and Tom Potton, College of Life Sciences.

The event starts at 6pm. Tickets are priced at £3 each, and all proceeds go to The Vine Trust Charity. Tickets are available from the Premiere Store at Dundee University Students Association, DUSA reception desk, at the University Online Store or on the door on the evening. There will also be stalls in Tower Building Reception and DUSA foyer over lunchtimes today and Monday.
