Botanic Garden calendar goes on sale
Stunning images of one of Dundee’s best loved beauty spots have been captured in a charity calendar produced by Friends of the University of Dundee Botanic Garden.
The 12 shots of the Garden were taken throughout the year by members of the organisation, who shared their photographs on the Internet community Flickr. As well as containing beautiful images, the calendar contains the Latin names for the plants pictured and helps to highlight the work carried out at the Garden.
The 9.5-hectare facility houses many species of indigenous British plants as well as representative collections of important plants from all the continents of the world. Staff are committed to educating people of all ages about the natural world, and more than 80,000 visitors cross its threshold every year.
The Garden contains a popular café and gift shop with plant nursery, and regular art exhibitions and other community events are hosted in the Visitor Centre.
The Friends of the University of Dundee Botanic Garden aim to:
- support and promote the development of the Garden.
- aid the Garden in its role as a source of scientific information for the public.
- provide a focus for informed discussion on matters of botanical interest.
- assist in fund raising.
The desk calendar produced by the organisation makes for an ideal Christmas present, and is available to buy for £3.50 at the Garden and at the Perth Road Post Office. It can also be bought online www.dundee.ac.uk/botanic/buycalendar (+£1 postage and packaging).
All proceeds will go towards helping the Friends deliver their objectives.
