Botanic Garden gears up for Christmas

From regular appearances by Santa Claus to an evening of live performance and music, Dundee Botanic Gardens has something to help people of all ages enjoy the run-up to Christmas.

Santa and his helper will be welcoming young visitors to his log cabin grotto between 11am and 3pm every Saturday and Sunday in December. Visits to Santa cost £5, and children of all ages are welcome. Each child will receive a hand-crafted toy which has been sourced from ecologically sustainable forests, and have the chance to pose for a photo with Santa.

The Botanic Garden coffee shop will also be providing refreshments, and there will be festive gifts available for sale, meaning that a fun family day out can be combined with a shopping trip.

Thursday, December 3rd, will see local production company DBS Productions return to Garden with their successful Christmas treat for a slightly older audience. ‘This Endris Night’ promises to entertain those tired of commercialised Christmas by presenting an evening filled with live music from Paul ‘Lefty’ Wright, mince pies and mulled wine, and a trip into the garden for the staging of a new play, ‘The Inheritance’.

‘The Inheritance’ is a chilling tale which uses locations in the garden to transport the audience into the midst of the story and may make them look at the garden differently in the future. Taking inspiration from the Victorian Christmas ghost story, this play will ensure a seasonal shudder to help the audience get into the festive spirit.

Tickets for ‘This Endis Night’ cost £12, and can be reserved by calling 01382 381190. The event takes place at 7.30pm, and advance booking is recommended as space is limited. As part of the evening takes place outdoors, it is essential to dress appropriately for the winter weather.
