Zombies on the loose at Degree Show
Photo opportunity - 11am, Monday May 25th,
Degree Show @ Vision Building, Greenmarket, Dundee
Ailsa will be setting two fully made-up zombies loose around Degree Show
Record-breaking attandances have already marked the opening weekend of Degree Show 2009 at the University of Dundee and supermodel Erin O'Connor has made her mark. Now things take a turn for the rather more grisly with a pair of zombies set to scare visitors to the Vision Building on Monday May 25th.
Ailsa Lawson, a graduate in Time-Based Art and Digital Film, will be applying full horror make-up to two of the stars of her film `Dee Of The Dead', a two-minute which showcases her startling make-up effects and rekindles memories of 70s horror films like 'Dawn Of The Dead'.
Ailsa, from Port Seton in Lothian, is on a quest to prove that make-up can still offer more realistic effects than computer-generated imagery. 'This is a craft that is being squeezed by technology, but it offers so much more,' said Ailsa.
She herself has a taste for gore - 'I’m the only person I’ve ever known of who has gone to an abattoir and been utterly delighted to leave with a bucket of ox blood and entrails'.
And what happened to the ox blood? 'I was stood just off screen while we were making the film, pumping it all down a funnel so it could explode out of someone’s chest,' she cheerfully explains.
Not always for the fainthearted then, but this is stunning application of a traditional craft.
