Website offers window into research centre

A new website to be launched today will showcase the state-of-the-art research facilities at the Clinical Research Centre Tayside to members of the public, researchers and healthcare industry professionals.

In addition, members of the UK pharmaceutical, clinical research organisation, and biotechnology industries will be able to see the exceptional facilities on offer for themselves by visiting www.crctayside.org.

The £13.5million Clinical Research Centre Tayside, situated within the grounds of Ninewells Hospital, was opened in July 2008. It accommodates clinical trails and patient studies, including advanced 3T MRI imaging and a PET/CT facility (opening autumn 2009), with an operating theatre suite interposed between the two.

The CRC is also a hub facility for Tayside and Fife with satellite facilities to deliver clinical trials to patients in a number of locations, and across several medical disciplines, including paediatrics and oncology. Strong links to community-based studies have been established.

The facility employs 18 staff, and is managed by a team reporting to a joint board comprising representatives from the University of Dundee and NHS Tayside.

Cameron Glen, Business Development Manager, said that the new CRC Tayside website showcased its outstanding research facilities.

'It clearly shows the advantages for our researchers and industry partners in making use of the new facility and enhancing the quality of their research. The site also communicates to the public the importance of clinical research and how they can get involved.'
