Sponsors line up to boost Degree Show
Local sponsors have come out in force to boost this year’s Degree Show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee, which opens this week.
Degree Show 09 opens tomorrow night (WED 20th) with an exclusive VIP preview - 'Designs On...The Future' - featuring fashion icon Erin O’Connor. That is followed by the traditional opening night for students, friends and families on Friday, with the exhibition open to the public from Saturday.
This year’s show takes place in the Vision Building in Seabraes for the first time, and has attracted fantastic support from the local business community.
'We have strived from the very start of planning Degree Show this year to make it an extra special event for our graduating students, and on the eve of it getting underway everything is looking fantastic,' said Joan Concannon, the University’s Director of External Relations.
'We absolutely could not have done it all in such style without the tremendous support we have had from our sponsors this year.'
'James Keiller Estates, on behalf of Horizon Capital, have given us access to the Vision Building, which is proving to be a fantastic exhibition space, and Unicorn Property Group have made it possible for us to host the private view event, Designs On..The Future, with Erin O’Connor.'
'In addition we have had fantastic support from McIntyre Hair and Design and the Green Room, who are doing all the hair and make-up for the catwalk models, Acanthus have provided all the flowers and Hatch Mansfield have generously supplied wine. Oasis have also helped cloth our models for tomorrow night.'
'It really is hugely encouraging for us that local businesses have been so keen to support Degree Show and have provided such a generous level of support. They are helping maintain Degree Show’s position as one of the key events on the cultural calendar.'
NOTES TO EDITORS
Over 260 graduating students will be displaying their degree projects at Degree Show 09, across the disciplines of fine art, design, textiles, jewellery, animation and digital imaging.
Profiles on some of the students taking part can be seen at: www.dundee.ac.uk/djcad/degreeshow/students.htm.
Dundee Degree Show will have a new look this year as it moves into new premises at the Vision Building at Seabraes in Dundee, which has been made available to the College by James Keiller Services, on behalf of Horizon Capital.
Dundee Degree Show will cap a very successful year for the College, which is part of the University of Dundee. It was rated one of the UK’s top colleges for research in art and design in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008.
The College has also been a driving force in the 'V&A Dundee - Making It Happen’ project which aims to attract the Victoria & Albert Museum to establish a presence in the city.
