A group of international students who have spent the past year studying at the University of Dundee will gather to celebrate their time in the city tonight (Friday May 1st) and also launch a new website which will give their successors an insight into life in the city.

The students have all been on the Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery course at the University. They have come from all over the world to study in Dundee, and many are working orthopaedic surgeons in their home countries.

'We have had a wonderful time in Dundee so we wanted to have a celebration of that,' said Dr George Mathew, who came from Kerala in India to study in Dundee.

'But we also wanted to create a way of staying in touch and maintaining our links with Dundee, and also helping lay the ground for the people who will come to study on the course in the future.'

'The new website we have created will allow us to do all of this, and also help spread the word about the course and Dundee.'

The website, at ttp://www.mchorthdundee.com, will provide helpful information on Dundee including things like shopping, transport, accommodation and sightseeing, as seen from the perspective of foreign students hoping to settle quickly into life in the city.

It will also provide information on practical measures for anyone hoping to study on the course, including information on visa requirements and related formalities.

'This is a wonderful gesture by this group of students who have clearly enjoyed their time in Dundee and have also given a lot back to the life of the University,' said Professor Rami Abboud, director of the course. 'Their actions will no doubt help attract more people to follow in their steps, and also make it easier for them when they do arrive here.'

The students will be joined for their celebration at Spice restaurant on Perth Road tonight by Acting Principal Professor Pete Downes and other senior staff from the University.
