Guildry scholarships for conservation students
Five University of Dundee students studying for a Masters degree in European Urban Conservation have received travel scholarships worth £400 each from the Guildry of Dundee.
Mr Robert Burns, the Lord Dean of Guild, was at the University today to present the awards to the students - Nick Baxter, Cormac Haughian, Fraser Mcleish, Kate Walton and Bryony Robinson.
The awards will enable the students to travel to a variety of destinations across Europe to undertake research for their dissertation. Included among the topics to be researched this year are the conservation of historic graveyards, sports stadiums and the origins of modern architecture.
The Guildry have supported the EUC programme for a number of years. 'We are extremely thankful to the Guildry for their long support and the obvious interest and enthusiasm the members have shown for the work the students produce,' said Neil Grieve, Director of the EUC programme.
The long running and much acclaimed programme prepares graduates for employment in a wide variety of conservation bodies such as Historic Scotland, English Heritage, local authorities, the Scottish Civic Trust and the Scottish Lime Centre. With increasing interest from non-European students in conservation issues a sister programme in International Urban Conservation will commence this September.
