Stovie supper provides filling for charity coffers

Cheque Presentation: Tues 17th March at 4.00 pm at the Masonic Lodge, Tayport.

Members of Masonic Lodge St Michael 246 in Tayport hosted a fundraiser two weeks ago which has seen them raise £400 for each of two charities - the University of Dundee's Diabetes Research Campaign and Ninewells Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The lodge gave the venue free of charge and provided the catering on the night. They also organised a raffle and other fundraising activities.

Ruth Hughes one of the organisers said, 'We chose Diabetes Research and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as the two charities to benefit. I have been diabetic for 35 years and have seen much headway being made over the years even in the simplest of things diabetics have to do on a daily basis and ongoing research is paramount for all those diabetics out there who will continue to reap the benefits of research in years to come.'

'Diabetics in pregnancy needs a lot of close monitoring and patients ultimately end up with their new born in the care of the Neonatal Unit. We were lucky when our son, Greg was born 8 years ago that I was fit and healthy and so was he. However, that didn't alleviate a short stay in the Unit.'

'The work they do is second to none, and we were looking to put something back into a vital service that has been of great benefit to us'.

There will be a cheque presentation on Tuesday 17th March at 4.00 pm at the Masonic Lodge, Tayport.

The cheques will be handed over to Rebecca McSherry from the Diabetes Research Campaign and to Alison Findlay, Senior Charge Nurse from the Neonatal Unit, by Bruce Dickson and Eric Thomson of Lodge St Michael. Bruce is diabetic and Eric has a daughter with diabetes and grandson who spent time in Neonatal.
