Students get cash boost from nightclub
Photo opportunity:
3pm, Wednesday, April 1st 2009.
Cheque to be presented outside Kage nightclub, St Andrews Lane, Dundee.
Animation students from the University of Dundee can draw upon the financial support of city
nightclub Kage as they prepare their Degree Show exhibitions.
Kage’s £300 donation will help the 18 BA (Hons) Animation students meet costs associated with
making their films for the Degree Show. The pool of money will be available for students to buy
equipment, pay for printing, and meet other expenses.
Kage is at the centre of Dundee’s alternative music scene and several students from Duncan of
Jordanstone College of Art, part of the University, are regulars at the club.
Entertainments Manager Kenny Gray says the club were keen to help after getting to know several
of the students who frequent Kage, including Ewan Hiddlestone who will accept the money on behalf
of his classmates.
Kenny said, 'As an ex-student of Duncan of Jordanstone I’m always glad to see students there
doing well and we were delighted to have the opportunity to help them out.'
He will present Ewan with a cheque for £300 at Kage, St Andrews Lane, Dundee at 3pm on
Wednesday. Ewan thanked staff at the club for their gesture, saying, 'We’re really grateful for
this money, which will be really helpful as we prepare for our degree show.
Hopefully it will also help us to get our films shown elsewhere.'
The films, in 2D, 3D, or a mixture of both, form the main body of work in the students’ final
year and will have a major bearing on the class of degree that each will receive.
They will be available to view at Duncan of Jordanstone’s Degree Show, which takes place
from May 23rd to June 6th.
