Design students at the University of Dundee will be planting a cherry tree on campus tomorrow (Thursday March 26th) as a mark of sustainability and the issues it brings to modern design.
Helped by staff from the University’s Botanic Gardens, the students from the Design Studies programme will plant the cherry tree at the rear of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design’s Matthew Building.
The theme for the students’ current semester is `sustainability’. One of the key texts they read is the book 'Cradle to Cradle: rethinking the way we make things’ by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, which uses the cherry tree as a metaphor for sustainability.
The students have also been running a sustainability forum and a small-scale vegetable growing study.
