'Is Privacy Dead In The Digital Age?' - Saturday Evening Lecture 28/02/09
The challenges of protecting our privacy at a time when technology has provided ever more sophisticated methods of monitoring our behaviour will be explored in the latest in the 2009 series of Saturday Evening Lectures at the University of Dundee this weekend.
Professor Anne Anderson, Head of the College of Art, Science and Engineering and Vice-Principal of the University, will pose the question 'Is Privacy Dead In The Digital Age?'.
In her lecture Professor Anderson will outline how we all have access to more computing and communication devices than George Orwell's Big Brother could dream about, and look at how can we deploy these devices to improve our lives yet protect our privacy.
Access to these new technologies brings responsibilities for individuals and organisations, but does it also mean that, as Sun Microsystems' CEO Scott McNealy has said, 'Privacy is dead - deal with it'.
It promises to be another fascinating instalment in the lecture series which is now in its 85th year and proving more popular than ever.
Professor Anderson's talk takes place in the Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, at 6 pm on Saturday. Admission is free and all are welcome. Free tickets are available from the Tower Building reception at the University, the Borders book store at Gallagher Retail Park in Dundee, and though the University’s online store - http://www.buyat.dundee.ac.uk.
