The entrepreneurial endeavours of students from the University of Dundee will be celebrated at a
glittering awards ceremony later this week.
The annual Enterprise Gym Award Dinner takes place at Discovery Point on Thursday, April 2nd.
Now in their fourth year, the Awards celebrate the innovation and dedication displayed by students
who have engaged with the University’s E-Gym scheme.
The pioneering project encourages students to develop the skills, confidence and self-reliance
that the next generation of entrepreneurs require. Students who sign up can access online
training materials, training sessions led by members of the local business community, and a
variety of other resources.
Ken Edward, Enterprise Facilitator at the University of Dundee, congratulated the students,
saying, 'All of the students receiving certificates this evening have shown great commitment and
engagement with the E-Gym's activities.'
'Some really excellent business ideas have been formed and developed this year and some
will be moving in to early commercialisation over the summer.'
'Without the involvement of the local business community through sponsorship and direct
interaction with the students, the Enterprise Gym would not be the success it is today.'
'We’d like to thank all local business men and woman who have helped us in succeeding to
prepare students in the area of business.'
The E-Gym has hosted a number of training workshops throughout the year as well as holding
competitions that challenge the students to demonstrate their business ability.
University staff and members of the local business community who provide financial
support and expertise will be in attendance to congratulate the students on their achievements.
More than 1000 students have signed up to the project since its inception four years ago.
In all, 34 students will receive certificates recognising their participation in this year’s
E-Gym activities while a number of other awards will also be presented.
This year’s overall Enterprise Gym Champion is Dr Sam Brown, who is in his first stages
of setting up his own philosophical business consultancy.
Champion Team are Stuff UniD, who provide survival packs primarily for overseas undergraduates
embarking upon University study and living away from home for the first time. The team consists
of James Nutt, James Murray, and Roshana Mehdian.
Sam Grosset was named as this year’s 'Iron Man' for his contribution and participation at
E-Gym events as well as representing the University outwith the Enterprise Gym activities.
Sam won first prize at the e-Gym’s Innovation tournament, helps to manage a band, and
organises popular nights at the Students Union.
Students and guests will be entertained by singer/songwriter Sian Cook and magician
David Bartholomew. Chief Executive of Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, Alan Mitchell,
will present the awards.
