Over 100 planning students from around the world are gathering at the University of Dundee this week as they continue their professional studies.

The group of 110 students are currently studying for a postgraduate MA in Town and Country Planning, which is a distance learning programme that the University of Dundee runs jointly with the Universities of Bristol, Leeds Metropolitan, London South Bank and the Open University. Most of the students are in the middle of their careers in planning, architecture, environment and related professions.

Students have come to Dundee from as far away as Jamaica for a one-week residential section of their course. During their stay here the students are studying aspects of design and development, regional and strategic planning, local and community planning, place making, development control and implementation and management.

Tonight (Wednesday 10th September) they will hear a keynote talk from Professor Kevin Murray, a highly respected town planning practitioner and former President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, who will speak on 'Planning for people and places: Looking for inspiration'.

The talk takes place at a dinner at the Apex Hotel and is hosted by Town and Regional Planning, from the School of Social Sciences at the University of Dundee.

In addition to intensive lectures, group discussions and seminars, students will this week have a study trip to Anstruther in Fife.
