The JOOT Theatre Company, comprised of current and former students and staff at the University of Dundee, are to take their production of the medieval morality play 'Everyman' to the Sorbonne in Paris later this month.

Jodi-Anne George, a Senior Lecturer in English at the University and Director of the the JOOT company, has also been invited to give a masterclass on the play to students at the Sorbonne.

The company will travel to Paris on December 14th and give their performance two days later in the Cardinal Richelieu Amphitheatre.

'Everyman' dates from the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries (between 1495 and 1525) and is one of the foremost examples of the medieval morality play. It is studied as part of the second-year English syllabus at Dundee.

'The play is an important part of the syllabus in some French universities, including the Sorbonne, this year for people studying English, which is how the invite to our company came about,' explained Jodi-Anne.

'There will be thirteen of us going to Paris, and it is an amazing opportunity for the students to get to go and do something like this.'

The company make their own costumes and will be transporting these and other props to Paris for the performance.

JOOT has been running since 1992, specialising in productions of Renaissance and medieval drama. The company has previously performed around the UK and Europe. They hope to put on a performance of 'Everyman' closer to home in Dundee in the Spring.
