Workshops for aspiring authors at Festival

A range of workshops for aspiring authors are taking place at the Dundee Literary Festival next month.

Kirsty Gunn, Literary Advisor for the festival and Chair of Creative Writing at the University of Dundee, will run the Creative Writing workshop on Friday 20th June at 10am. Writers will be able to hear Kirsty read, then work with her on producing a piece of work.

On Friday afternoon, David Graham, Managing Director of Granta, will head up a panel of experts who will give tips on how to get published. The panel will include Will Atkinson of Faber, Lee Brackstone of Faber and Alex Clark of Granta. They will be showing how to get your work out of the slush pile and into print.

On Saturday morning, Amanda Millen of BBC Scotland’s drama department and the Creative Industries team of the Highland and Islands Enterprise team will run a two hour workshop on writing screenplays for TV.

Kirsty, who won the Sundial Book Prize in 2007, says, "Dundee is full of exciting and vibrant writers and the Literary Festival is a wonderful opportunity for them to meet us, each other and to hone their skills."

The workshops are all very limited in numbers, so get a ticket early. Tickets are available by logging on to www.dundeeliteraryfest.org or by calling 01382 384768. Tickets are also available from Borders bookshop, Dundee.
