Renewables, EU’s Energy Policy and Scotland - event May 16th

The EU’s energy and climate change package produced on 23 January 2008 reflects the importance of energy and climate change policy in the EU agenda. These proposals and other recent developments in the EU Energy Policy will have a significant impact on Scotland and Scottish stakeholders as well as providing major opportunities.

This week the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) will be hosting a Scotland Europa meeting, Energy Policy in Europe - the latest developments and building Scotland’s opportunity, to explore the challenges and opportunities that arise from recent developments in the EU energy policy.

The event, on Friday May 16th, will also see Professor Kurt Deketelaere, CEPMLP’s Honorary Professor of Climate Change Law, give his inaugural lecture on renewables in EU energy and environmental policy.

Prof Deketelaere has been in his post since late 2007 and is also Professor of Law with the Faculty of Law at the University of Leuven. He is also currently the Chief of Staff in the Flemish Government’s Ministry for Public Works, Energy, Environment and Nature.

The meeting includes presentations to update attendees on the latest developments in the EU energy policy, followed by a closed door roundtable meeting for Scotland Europa’s members and stakeholders to open a dialogue on maximising Scotland’s opportunity.
