Bands rock out for Malawi
Five bands will rock out for Malawi at Fat Sams in Dundee on Sunday night at a fundraising concert to support a University of Dundee project which is sending medical students to work in the African country.
Irish band The Eleventh Note will be joined by local groups The Daze, The Rise, The Trade and The Munrow for the gig in aid of the Medicine In Malawi project.
The project will see medical students from the University of Dundee taking up four-month placements starting later this summer at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi, where they work on their own ward and also have the opportunity to work on projects with international health organizations and at local outreach clinics.
There is a real need to develop better healthcare infrastructure and care in Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries.
"This is a project which could have a real impact on medical care for people in Malawi, so it is great that the bands are taking time to support it," said Louise McCorry, who has organised the concert and is one of the medical students involved in the project.
"We are very close to reaching our fundraising target to support the project and hopefully we can get enough people along on Sunday night to push us over the top."
The gig takes place on Sunday May 25th and admission is £5 on the door. Doors open 9 pm.
