Engineering award for Dundee student Ross
A University of Dundee student has been granted a prestigious award from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Ross Whiteside (21), a third-year student in Civil Engineering, has been given an Engineering Advanced Leadership Award from the Royal Academy, one of only 26 made to students in the UK this year.
The Award is designed to build students’ leadership talents and provide them with greater insights on how they can apply their core engineering skills in a professional setting. The Award opens up £5000 of funding for Ross.
"I am delighted to get this award and I must say thanks to all the staff in Civil Engineering who have been fantastic in supporting me," said Ross, who is from Edinburgh.
"I have a specific interest in recycled materials and sustainability, so I’m hoping to use the funding opportunities that come with the Award to increase my knowledge in those areas."
The news of Ross’s award is the latest in a string of successes for Civil Engineering at Dundee, which has just been named among the top departments in the country in successive league tables.
