South Asian Cultural Celebration - Aaja Nachle (Come Let’s Dance)
Photo opportunity: Thursday 15 May, from 6 pm
At Mono, DUSA, Balfour Place.
The University of Dundee will host its first South Asian Cultural Celebration this week.
The Student Advisory Service at the University together with representatives from various student societies - including the newly established Indian Society - have organised the event, which provides an opportunity for students to relax and unwind as they approach the end of a busy academic year.
At the Aaja Nachle (Come Let’s Dance) event on Thursday May 15th, lively Bollywood dancers will open the show, and there will be classical musicians, Bhangra hip hop dancers, and other entertainers representing India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The event will also feature a fashion show with students stepping out on the catwalk with colourful traditional Asian dress.Head of the Student Advisory Service, Irene Donaldson, said ‘This is the first South Asian event we have organised and, having ran a hugely successful African Cultural Fusion show last year, we are now looking forward to welcoming all nationalities from the University’s multi-cultural community, as well as local representatives.’
A cultural celebration such as this could not be complete without a tasty spicy experience, and a range of Indian and Bangladeshi dishes will be served up by local restaurateurs.
The show, at Mono in The Union, begins at 6 pm on Thursday 15 May. Tickets are £2, available from the Student Advisory Service, Level 4, The Union.
