Wimberley Award 2008

Computing graduate Suzanne Prior has been named this year’s winner of the University of Dundee’s Wimberley Award, given to the student who has made the most distinguished contribution to University life.

Suzanne (22), who graduated in June, has managed to combine academic excellence with a strong interest in student representation throughout her time at Dundee.

Academically she achieved a first-class Honours degree in Applied Computing and also scooped a major international prize when she won the undergraduate competition at the Student Research Competition at the ACM SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, held this year in Florence, Italy.

Her degree placed her among this year’s `First Ladies of Computing’ - three of the first-class degrees awarded in Applied Computing went to women.

In wider student life, she was Student President with the School of Computing for the last two years of her degree programme and helped revitalise the School’s student society. She has also played a strong role in helping develop student recruitment visits for the School.

"This has come as total surprise but I am absolutely delighted to receive the award," said Suzanne, who is from Perth.

"The School of Computing has been a great place to work and study so I’ve been really glad to get involved with things like the student society and the visit days. To get the award is really just a bonus on top of enjoying what I do."

Suzanne is staying on at Dundee to study for a PhD.
