How the sporting Victorians changed Highland Scotland - Saturday Evening Lecture, February 2nd
The continuing impact of the Victorian sporting tradition on the landscape of the Highlands of Scotland will be explored at the University of Dundee’s Saturday Evening Lecture this weekend.
Sir John Lister-Kaye, one of Scotland’s best known naturalists and conservationists, will use film and imagery to explore the `Balmorality Epoch’ - the impact of the Victorian sporting tradition on the landscape and natural history of the Highlands.
The Victorian pursuits of hunting, shooting and fishing have had, and continue to have, a profound effect on the Highlands, as Sir John will illustrate.
Sir John Lister-Kaye is the author of seven books on nature and wildlife. His books 'Song of the Rolling Earth', and `Nature's Child’ have been best sellers, and he has lectured on conservation and environmental politics on three continents.
The Saturday Evening Lecture 2008 series got off to a hugely successful start last weekend when around 500 people attended the opening lecture by TV historian Dan Snow.
The lecture takes place at 6 pm on Saturday February 2nd in the New Teaching Block, Old Hawkhill. Entry is free
The Saturday Evening Lecture Series is one of the longest-running public lecture series in Scotland.
