500 Years of Printing - Exhibitions at the University of Dundee
As part of the national celebrations to mark 500 years of printing in Scotland, the University of Dundee Museum Services is staging two exhibitions looking at different aspects of printing.
`Medical Impressions - printing in medical education' is a special collaborative exhibition with the Department of Special Collections at the University of St Andrews Library, focusing on the role of printing in the history of medical education in Scotland - from textbooks to teaching charts, from exam papers to degree certificates.
The exhibition runs until October 4th at the Tayside Medical History Museum, Medical School Foyer, Ninewells Hospital.
`Artistic Impressions - printing in art' focuses on the various uses of print in art, and includes a range of printmaking techniques (such as etchings, mezzotints, monotypes and screenprints); a display on Dundee's early cartoonists and newspaper illustrators; and a selection of rarely seen, limited edition works from the University's Centre for Artists Books.
The exhibition runs until May 31st in the Main Library, University of Dundee.
As part of the exhibition, a special open day is planned for the Centre for Artists Books at the Visual Research Centre, Dundee Contemporary Arts on 16 May, 2-4pm. For further details, contact museum@dundee.ac.uk or 01382 384310.
