40 year celebration for Couple and University

A couple who married at the University of Dundee chaplaincy the year the University was opened will celebrate their Ruby wedding anniversary tomorrow (SAT) at the University.

Drs Robin and Iain Adamson then spent, collectively, 62 years working at the University.

The couple met when Dr Adamson was visiting lecturer at the University of Western Australia in 1966. The couple married in Dundee in August 1967, just three weeks after the University had opened.

Dr Iain Adamson went on to be a Senior Mathematics lecturer and his wife, Dr Robin Adamson was Director of the Centre for Language Studies.

The couple moved to Australia in 2001, but return to the city every year and their daughter Margaret still works at the University.

Robin says, "It is always lovely to come back to Dundee and see our friends. We have a long history with the University so it is very special to be sharing our anniversary with the birthday of the Uni."

They will celebrate 40 years of marriage with a part in the River Rooms, University of Dundee, on Saturday.

The University of Dundee was formally opened on 1st August 1967, after ties with St Andrews were severed and it gained independence.
