Treat for classical musical lovers
Classical music lovers are set for a treat this week as one of the most exciting duo’s in the UK, ¡Canto vivo!, play as part of the University of Dundee’s Evening Concert series.
Maltese soprano Claire Debono and Scottish guitarist Simon Thacker have been performing together for over five years and have sold out venues from Edinburgh to London to New York. A review in the New York Times said of her performance: "By far the best singing of the evening was Claire Debono’s sensitive, colorful and gracefully embellished account of Ilia’s music."
Upcoming engagements for Claire include the roles in The Marriage of Figaro for Opera de Lyon, including performances in New York and Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d’Ulisse In Patria at the Teatro Real, Madrid.
Simon Thacker is a classical Guitarist who has performed a solo recital at the Purcell Room, Royal Festival Hall, London, as a winner of the 50th Park Lane Group Young Artist Awards, which included a specially written work by Irish composer David Fennessy. In 2002 he gave a series of concerts in Havana, Cuba, for audiences that included Ramon Castro, brother of Fidel, and Cuba’s greatest composer Leo Brouwer, as well as on live TV.
Throughout 2007 Simon will be touring The Alternative Guitar, including at Musica Nova, Glasgow and Sound 2007, Aberdeen.
These musicians are in huge demand across the world and we are very privileged to welcome them to Dundee.
The concert takes place on Thursday 10th May, 7.30pm in the Chaplaincy Centre.
Tickets cost £8, £4 concession, £1 school children and are available from Dundee City Box Office, City Square or at door.
