Gary Player to present inaugural alumni golf trophy

Golfing legend Dr Gary Player will present the inaugural Gary Player Alumni Trophy to lawyer Andy Harris on Thursday July 19th.

Mr Harris was one of hundreds of University alumni who returned for a Homecoming reunion weekend in June as part of the institution’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

Alumni were given the chance to play two days golf over the challenging links at Carnoustie only weeks before the course played host to this week’s Open Championship.

Mr Harris, who graduated in law from the University in 1991, posted the best score of the weekend to win the Gary Player Alumni Trophy. He will be presented with his prize, a a silver trophy sponsored by Dr Pat McPherson, by Dr Player on Thursday.

The runner up was 2005 graduate Dr Douglas Morran, who will be presented with a golf umbrella.

Gary Player was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University in 1999.
