Boat Club's gruelling 12 hour challenge!

Dundee University Boat Club are aiming to raise at least £3000 when they undertake a 12 hour sponsored row on Wednesday 7th February.

Around 35 club members will take part in the annual Row-A-Thon, which over the past five years has raised over £3000 for charitable causes including the Breast Cancer Research Scotland and Caring for Kids charities.

This year they half of the money raised will be donated to Maggie's Cancer Care Centre, which is located within the grounds of Ninewells hospital, with the other half going towards the club's fund for their much needed boat house extension.

The team are set to row for 12 hours, including the challenge of the "Hour of Pain" in the final hour, when the entire squad will take turns sprinting the rowing machine to cover the greatest possible distance to the finish. The event will take place on two rowing machines situated at the Air Bar in Dundee University Students’ Association, and will be running from 12 noon - 12 midnight.

"It’s going to be a long tough day, but one that is well worth it for a great cause," said Megan Mackie, secretary of Dundee University Boat Club. "We’d like as many people as possible to support us throughout the day, and also, of course, to donate as much money as they can."

Collecting buckets will also be taken around DUSA’s bars on February 7th, and there is also a challenge to guess how many miles the team will cover in the final Hour of Pain.

Anyone wishing to support the club’s efforts should contact their secretary, Megan Mackie, on 07960089131 or m.j.mackie@dundee.ac.uk.

Donations may be left in the DUBC postbox, which is situated in the Sport's Union office, on the first floor of the University Union.
