New School of Accounting and Finance to launch
The University of Dundee’s newly formed School of Accounting and Finance will launch next week with a special event for academics, professionals, and local businessmen and women.
The School was, until recently, a department with the ex-faculty of Law and Accountancy but has been granted the status of being a School within the College of Arts and Social Sciences. Their new elevated status reflects their growing importance as a centre of excellence for Accounting and Finance, both in Scotland and the UK.
Speaking at the launch will be Andrew Higginson, Finance and Strategy Director for Tesco, who will talk on ‘The Rise of Consumer Awareness of Global Issues and the Impact of Business on the Environment’. Dr Kenneth Lyall, a senior investment director at Walter Scott and Partners Ltd will enlighten people on the statement, ‘It’s The Customer, Stupid’ (with apologies to James Carville, 1992) and Richard Clark, an alumnus of Dundee University and now an entrepreneur, will talk on ‘A Degree of Risk’.
The Dean of the School, Professor John Burns, says, "The excellent quality of speakers at our launch mirrors the excellence within our School. We particularly hope this event will augment our relations with external partners in Tayside and beyond, as we forge ahead with our three main strategic goals: excellence in teaching and learning, international standards in research and knowledge transfer and building an environment that enables students and staff to reach their full potential."
The event will take place on Wednesday 21 February at 6.00pm in the D'Arcy Thompson Tower Lecture Theatre, Tower Building, University of Dundee.
